Ever have one of those days when it doesn’t matter what you wear—it all looks awful and you feel like a puff monster?

It doesn’t matter what you do—you’re exhausted, crabby, and out of sorts—or you’re hungry but nothing seems to satisfy your vague cravings?

You have a choice. You can hide in your bedroom with a paper bag over your head so you don’t have to look at yourself or acknowledge that something is a little off, or you can fix the problem at its core. Your body is telling you something important, and you need to listen. It’s telling you to clean up your act. Literally.

Sometimes the things that keep us from feeling our best lurk so deep in our bodies that we literally need to clean them out. This process is called ‘detoxification,’ and it is all about clearing the body and nurturing it from the inside out. Whether we are fitness freaks, weekend warriors or semi-comatose couch potatoes, daily detox is a healthful practice. All of us can benefit from it. Daily detoxification practices are important for our bodies to function and for optimum health.

Detoxification has been around forever in most cultures and can help you to achieve optimum health, but how do you know if you need a detox or a reboot?

Pay attention to the way you feel and the way you look. It can be as simple as your jeans feeling way too snug all of a sudden. Water weight? Bloat? Overindulgence? Or maybe a combination of all three? Detox can and will fix any of these problems—and have your jeans fitting like a dream. Perhaps your body is telling you in a much louder way through acne or other skin problems, migraines, fatigue, gas, constipation, or sleep issues. You name it. These symptoms indicate there is something in your body that your body wants out. If you aren’t feeling your best, you likely need to detoxify your body.

In this series, we are going to go through ways that you can implement easy detoxification into your daily life. Let’s start with a brief overview of the topics we’ll discuss in the coming weeks.

Mindfulness

Sometimes it really is “all in your head.” De-stressing your life through meditation, visualization, and other contemplative practices will help clear your mind and guide you to a place of inner peace.

Clean house

Better out than in. Yep. When you are constipated you are definitely crabby and toxic. So we are going to talk about how to keep your system moving, grooving, and removing.

Cut out the crap

The liver and kidneys are the bodies filtration system and work together to remove toxic waste from the body. we will review what foods support continual cleansing. Ever heard the saying ‘You are what you eat’? Well, if you eat crap aka junk food, you will feel like crap. There are foods to avoid—you know them at a glance. They have neon colors not found in nature; they crunch with crispy fat or glisten with sugar crystals, and they seem to stay ‘fresh’ forever. They are overly processed, overly sugared, and overly dosed with preservatives.

Your body likes things simple and pure, so we’ll also discuss the myriad delicious and healthy alternatives to junk food. We’ll talk about the foods that nourish and cleanse and leave you craving the good stuff.

Break a sweat

When you perspire you are ridding your body of toxins carried out and away by your sweat. You’re also building muscle and lung capacity thereby making your body stronger and more resistant. Exercise doesn’t have to be onerous, and it can fit into your frantic lifestyle. We’ll talk about the how-to’s; there are a surprising number of ways to aid your body in sweating out its toxins.

Get the lymph moving

The body’s lymphatic system carries the fluids that fight infection and disease throughout your body. It’s important to keep those fluids moving freely, but a poor diet and sedentary lifestyle can slow the flow. Your body also likes to do what it was made to do—move. We’ll talk specifically about the role of the lymphatic system in your well-being.

Your body is your temple and the only one you’ll ever have—so let’s start treating it with reverence and respect. Practice and repetition lead to a habit, so together we will chat about how to form daily rituals and detox habits to keep your body in optimum shape. I am excited about guiding you through your detox journey. Together we’ll take the steps that lead to healthy and serene lifestyle.
